Brief Profile

Saint Lucians are descendants of native Caribs and the European settlers who moved to their island in the West Indies. The culture of Saint Lucia has been influenced by African, East Indian, French and English heritage. Almost all Saint Lucians speak Saint Lucian Creole French, although many speak English as well.

Saint Lucian cuisine is a unique blend of West African, European (mainly British and French, who were the primary European settlers) and East Indian cuisine. Popular dishes are macaroni pie, rice and peas, hearty fish broths or fish water, vegetable soups, and stewed and browned meat or seafood in a rich gravy. Because of Saint Lucia's Indo-Caribbean population, a distinct Caribbean curry flavor is very popular.

Saint Lucians have a strong indigenous folk music and dance tradition, and also enjoy a variety of Caribbean music and dance genres such as Calypso, Soca, Dancehall, Reggae, Compas, Zouk and Salsa.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for God to draw Saint Lucians to Himself.
  • Pray for the Lord of the Harvest to raise up church planters among the Saint Lucian.
  • Pray for God to use Saint Lucian believers to impact unreached people groups for Christ.
